And yet, Chromium 6 was very widely used in various surface treatments on fasteners, in order to obtain the desired corrosion-resistance. This is particularly the case in the Dutch engineering and High-Tech industry, in which fasteners generally need to meet specific and strict requirements.
For Jeveka, as an importer and supplier of fasteners and tools, the engineering and High-Tech industry are important sales markets. Jeveka is aware of its social responsibility, and its vital role in the supply chain. For some time now, we have considered it desirable to cease using Chromium 6, even where it is legally permissible.
In recent years Robin Kuhlman (Product Quality), and Michel van Nieuwenhuizen (Strategic Purchasing), have worked together to find and develop alternatives for those fasteners in our range which contain Chromium 6, so that we can finally phase it out.
We can now say with certainty that we have equivalent alternatives for all fasteners containing Chromium 6. When selecting alternatives it is important to take into account the:
- Corrosion-resistant properties
- Electrical conduction
- Temperature resistance
- Chemical resistance
