An insert can also be used to repair damaged screw threads. KATO has a developed a repair set for this: the KATO repair set. This is a universally accepted method for repairing damaged screw threads.

The advantage of this is that you do not need to replace the entire component when the screw thread is no longer working properly. A repair set includes inserts, and insertion/removal tools - as well as taps and twist drills, if required. The removal tool is only for use with tangless inserts.

How does it work?

Step 1: Drill into the damaged screw thread hole using a twist drill.
Step 2: Tap the new screw thread using the correct size of tap.
Step 3: Use the inserting tool to attach the insert. First attach the insert to the inserting tool before screwing the complete insert into the freshly-tapped hole.
Step 4: The screw thread is now repaired.
